Now Is the Time: Embracing the Urgency of God's Calling
The clock is ticking. The sands of time are slipping through our fingers. Every moment is a precious gift, and it's time we start living it with intention and purpose. The Bible echoes this sentiment throughout its pages, urging us to seize the present moment, for "now is the time" to act on God's calling.
The urgency of the present moment is a recurring theme in scripture. We see it in the words of the prophet Joel, who proclaims, "Rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster." (Joel 2:13). This verse exhorts us to act now, to turn from our sinful ways and seek the Lord's forgiveness. This moment, this very second, is the time to make that crucial decision.
Living in the Now: A Call to Action
The Bible reminds us that life is a journey, not a destination. We are called to walk with God each step of the way, embracing the present moment with open arms. Just as the apostle Paul urged the Corinthians, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." (Colossians 3:12). This verse reminds us that we are called to live out our faith in the here and now, by embodying the fruits of the Spirit in our daily interactions.
We are not meant to be stagnant, waiting for some future moment to arrive. "Now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2), and we must seize the opportunities that God places before us. Whether it's sharing our faith with a loved one, offering a helping hand to someone in need, or simply choosing to live with integrity, every action we take in this present moment can have a profound impact on our lives and the lives of those around us.
Imagine a world where we all lived with the urgency of "now is the time." What would that look like? Would we be more patient with one another, more willing to forgive, more compassionate in our actions? Absolutely. The Bible reminds us that our lives are a gift, a fleeting moment in the grand scheme of things. "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12).
We are called to embrace the time we have been given, to live it with intention and purpose, and to make the most of every single moment. The world needs our light, our love, and our compassion. "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and strengthened in the faith as you were taught, overflowing with thankfulness." (Colossians 2:6-7). Let us walk in the light of God's love and grace, embracing the present moment and living lives that are worthy of the calling we have received.
